BioChallenge is a separately held event organized by the New Orleans BioInnovation Center.

BIO on the BAYOU presents University Research the way YOU want it. This signature business conference showcases academic science and biotech from the entire Gulf South region. Senior executives and top decision-makers from the corporate, investor, foundation, government, and academic sectors work together to advance cutting-edge research from the bench to the bedside. The program features expert-led panels, private meeting capabilities, networking opportunities, and business-style scientific presentations straight from researchers at leading Gulf South universities.

The event will be held at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, located at: 1441 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA, 70112.

If chosen as a finalist, travel and accommodations will be paid for one (1) person in your company/team.

Unfortunately, due to the high number of applications, we cannot provide a written explanation to every applicant who isn’t selected as a finalist. Most often, it is due to applications not being properly submitted.

Updates that have taken place since the last application should be reflected and highlighted in your application. Industry needs and sponsor interest are constantly evolving.

Yes, the BioChallenge is a global competition. International applicants are welcomed and encouraged to apply. 

No, but we hope one reason you’re applying is to gain access to the Louisiana ecosystem. This is a great way to do it! 

All finalists will be offered coaching sessions with pitch experts that will assist with: subject matter preparation, refining presentations, and prime finalists for the competition. All coaching sessions will be held online, via Zoom.

Yes! Ventures involving technologies licensed from universities or research labs are encouraged to apply. 

Yes! NOBIC encourages applications from companies at all stages of fundraising, from friends and family to seed and beyond to apply to the BioChallenge. Preference is given to companies with transformative potential and those who will benefit the most from working with BioChallenge partners. 

NOBIC, along with its Challenge sponsors, evaluates all applications based on value, strength, and execution plan. The company strength for each category is evaluated using multiple metrics:  

Value – product, customer validation, business model and healthcare economics, competition, IP, market opportunity, and patient benefit. 

Strength – team strength, development plan, responsiveness/coachable, freedom to operate, regulatory and clinical burden, funding to date, resources needed. 

Execution plan – stage of development, evidence, time to market, traction, partnerships & relationships, time to key milestones.

Specific areas of focus can be found here. We encourage those who are developing a product and/or service in the specific areas outlined to apply. 

The application needs to be completed and submitted along with all requested materials, before the deadline, 11:59 PM, CT, on July 22, 2024.

No, no equity is taken. 

Yes! You can enter as an individual or team working in academic, research, or commercial start-up setting and have an innovative product or solution. 

No, university researchers and research teams are encouraged to apply. 

Inventors, entrepreneurs, start-ups, non-profits and university researchers are all welcome to enter the challenge! 

No, there is no application fee.
